Acknowledgements and Limitations

This project acknowledges that there are many limits to its ability to fully represent the vast and ever-growing knowledge on gender and gender diversity across cultures.

As research continues in this area, as in any other field of research, the information presented here may need to be updated.

Similarly, ideas about gender and gender diversity can vary depending on the moment in time, context, culture, or individual. Thus, the information seen on this page may not align with other cultural and/or individual ideas about gender and gender diversity.

Culture influences our understanding of gender and gender diversity.

As a result, this project inevitably comes to the topic of gender and gender diversity influenced by a Western perspective. Although care, thought, and effort has been made to ensure accurate representations of gender diversity across cultures, Western cultural influences may still unintentionally influence the ways in which this topic has been approached.

Research interview quotes, articles, and videos featuring the voices of gender-diverse individuals were incorporated to ensure representation from communities highlighted on this page.

However, because this project draws its information primarily from academic research and researchers, it is ultimately limited in its ability to fully capture the rich and diverse lived experiences of gender-diverse peoples across cultures. Thus, it is recommended that future projects, which intend to educate the public on topics regarding gender diversity across cultures, directly reach out to the gender-diverse communities it would like to focus on for input.

Here, we aimed to introduce the public to ideas about gender and gender diversity across cultures, while spreading awareness of six gender-diverse communities around the world.

While there are limitations with this project, we hope that it will contribute to future knowledge translation efforts regarding this topic. Projects like this are important as they increase accessibility to research and knowledge on gender for the public.
